Friday October 22, 2010

We left Vail this morning with low clouds, overcast and occasional drizzling conditions. We headed west on I70 toward Grand Junction CO. Most of this route follows the Colorado River and included a great drive through a canyon as we descended from the Rockies. Here is the route we followed today (435 km).

At Grand Junction, we decided to take a tour through the Colorado National Monument Park.

Unfortunately the weather was still overcast and as we ascended the rim road, we drove into the clouds. Great view eh!

We did get a few breaks in the visibility and can only imagine what it would look like in good conditions.

We entered Utah in continued overcast and drizzly weather.

We took the alternate "scenic byway" route to Moab which was quite scenic (again, it would have been spectacular on a good day).

We checked into the Best Western in Moab and went for supper at the Moab Brew Pub. Tomorrow we are off to Arches National Park and hopefully some hiking and photography.
