Sunday October 24, 2010

Yesterday we felt we had only scratched the surface of what to see in the Moab area so we extended our stay for one more day. We had heard a lot of good things about Canyonlands National Park which was about 30 miles out of town.

It is know as the "Island in the Sky" and that it is. It is a massive elevated mesa (several miles across) that provides fantastic views of the surrounding canyons. We happened to encounter a park ranger who was giving an interpretive lecture on the geology of the area that was very interesting.

The hiking here was primarily trails around the rims with stunning overlooks. Chris was getting better at getting close to the edges.

Temperatures today were only in the low 50's but with partly sunny conditions. We had a quick supper and I retreated to the computer to sort through the 300 pictures we had taken in the last two days.
