We woke up in Vail CO with some frost on the roofs and cars but it was a clear sunny day. By the time we got organized to go out it was around 10:00 am and warming up. Chris and I went hiking on a trail that runs along the hills (ie. mountains) opposite the villages of Vail and West Vail. We dropped our vehicle at the east trail head and arranged for Jenn to pick us up at he west end when we finished.

It was about 7 miles so we figured we would be a few hours. We did not take into account that we were up to 9,500 ft of elevation and the trail actually went up and down two hills (ie. mountains) with a total of 2,000 ft climbing and 2,000 ft descending some fairly steep trails.

Needless to say, the effort was worth it with some stunning scenery and great overviews of Vail.

The photo below is us at the highest point on the trail.

When we returned to the condo, we got to go and soak in the hot tub which felt great.

I cooked an Italian supper of chicken parm and pasta and we got the kids off to bed in time to have a Mexican Train Dominoes tournament with Jenn & Aaron. We slept well.

  1. I am lovin' reading all about the trip. Your first snow coincides with the first snow for some folks just north of Toronto. We have had our first real frost here last night.

Fabulous scenery! I am extremely impressed with your hiking endeavours. Wow!
