Monday November 15, 2010

Our full day in Death Valley started off with an early alarm to get to Zabriskie Point in time for sunrise. The place was crawling with fellow photographers. Here is a fellow that is still in the analogue photography mode .... B&W 4x5's.

As the sun rose, the contours really popped to life.

We returned to our room and got ready to see as much as we could during the day. The park is huge and it would take several days to visit all of the varied points of interest. We started out on a hike in Golden Canyon. Here is a "Where's Waldo?" photo which puts the depth of the canyon into perspective .... find Chris in the pic.

We met some fellow Canadians from Vancouver Island who were on a similar trip as ours. We hiked with them with to the trails end at the Red Cathedral. The temperature was great topping 90F in the early afternoon.

An interesting view of the road in the valley ....

Our next stop was the Badwater Basin which is the lowest point in Death Valley. There are salt flats and with no wind, reflecting pools here.

A short distance away is the "Devil's Golf Course" which has large salt crystalline mounds for as far as you can see.

From there we did the Artist's Drive through some badlands. The featured area was the Artist's Palette of mineral coloured rock.

From here, we were off to the Mesquite Dunes. We hiked out for about 1 mile to get some great pictures.

The low angle lighting of the afternoon provided for some great "texture" images.

We returned to our resort around 4:30 (sunset) and sat on our patio for some drinks, trying to figure out how to sort through the 250 pictures I took today. Do ya think we liked it here????
